Emergency First Response (formerly Medic First-Aid)
The
PADI Emergency First Response Course (EFR) is a one-day
non-diving specific, general First Aid Course. Designed
by the American Heart foundation, using guidelines previously
published in the Journal of the American Medical Association
and by the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons,
this programme aims to provide participants with the
basic knowledge and practical skills required to assist
an injured person.
It
may be something simple such as a small cut, or something
more serious such as a heart attack. Whatever the situation
the EFR Programme will assist you in developing the
necessary skills and confidence to provide first response
care to the patient.
The
EFR course content is sub-divided into the seven
skills of patient care:
- Primary
assessment
- One
rescuer C.P.R.
- Airway
management (choking)
- Control
of bleeding
- Shock
management
- Illness
assessment
- Injury
assessment
The
programme runs over approximately eight hours, split
into two segments and is based around a stress free,
practical hands on approach. You will watch a short
video segment, followed by an Instructor demonstration
of the skill.
You
then practice either with a C.P.R. mannequin or on the
other participants in the programme, under the supervision
of your Instructor. We?ve had a lot of fun with this
course with several people looking like an Egyptian
mummy by the end of the day!
