Surat Thani is the capital of the Surat province and covers a large area. The train station is approximately 8km outside the town.

Surat Thani is a jumping off point for all the islands, Koh Samui, Koh Tao and Koh Phangan.

Songserm offers boats to Koh Tao via morning boat which depart normally 7.30am arriving in Koh Tao around 2.30pm or the night boat departing at 11pm arriving on Koh Tao at approximately 7am.
